New week in review

Sorry for the slow updates this week. I've had a nasty chest cold and haven't been at the house since Tuesday. The great news is that the tiling in the bathrooms is COMPLETE! John did a fantastic job. Here's the master shower nook:

I am very impressed with your work. Have enjoyed reading through your blog. The subway tile with the grey flecked floor and black base is awesome looking. Is the floor, granite? It almost has a continuous poured terrazzo look. A bit turn-of-the-century,industrial look. I was planning to use subway tile and 1" hex tiles but after seeing yours, may have to reconsider.

Anyway, you are doing beautiful work! I have subscribed to your posts. Feel free to add more details :). Which reminds me... did you beef up your subfloors to accommodate your tile floors? Did you consider using the Ditra membrane product? I'm in the middle of figuring all this out.

Looks great! I really like both of the choices you made, but those subway tiles are really neat.

Thanks Bungalow Monster! The floor is ceramic tile that is made to look like terrazzo. We like the sort of industrial look and it hides dirt (and thinset and grout) really well too! We let our framing contractors know where we were going to put tile. In the kitchen they laid 3/4" plywood and Eric did lots of beam sistering beneath it. In the guest bath we poured self-levelling concrete. The master I believe has 3/4 plywood upon which we placed DenShield (concrete backer board). We did not use the Ditra membrane, but it is certainly something worth considering (for you)! Good luck! We'll try to add some more fun info for you!
